About

I write about the beliefs people carry without ever having chosen them. Most of what shapes a life is not a decision but an inheritance: a phrase from a parent, a rule learned in a room we no longer remember, a story about ourselves we started telling early and never revised.

My interest is in noticing. Not fixing, not prescribing. When I write about relationships, it is usually about the small translations we make for each other and how often they go unnoticed. When I write about identity, it is usually about the gap between who we are and the version that answers first under pressure. I am more interested in seeing clearly than being reassured.

The essays arrive weekly. They tend to start with something ordinary, a conversation that went sideways, a habit that outlived its reason, and follow it until it says something truer than it first appeared to. I try to leave the reader with a clearer view rather than an instruction.

Alongside the newsletter I have published two books, The Quiet Things That Changed Everything and The Season Changed While I Wasn’t Looking, with more in development. I also make music under the name Calmness, which does in sound what the essays attempt in sentences.

All of it lives under Calmness Studio, the creative home behind the writing and the music.
